John Ikechukwu Okafor, famously known as Mr. Ibu, was a beloved Nigerian actor and comedian whose legacy continues to inspire fans worldwide. Born on October 17, 1961, in Enugu State, Mr. Ibu’s journey to stardom was marked by resilience and determination.

Raised in Nkanu West L.G.A., Enugu State, Mr. Ibu faced early challenges after his father’s passing, leading him to Sapele, where he took on various jobs to support himself and his family. Despite financial hardships, he pursued education at the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu, laying the foundation for his future careerĀ¹.

Mr. Ibu’s illustrious career spanned over 200 Nollywood movies, showcasing his comedic genius and acting prowess. He starred in iconic films such as “Mr. Ibu” (2004), “Mr. Ibu 2” (2005), and “Mr. Ibu in London” (2005), captivating audiences with his unique style and humor. Additionally, he ventured into music, releasing songs like “This Girl” and “Do You Know” in October 2020.

In October 2023, Mr. Ibu revealed his battle with a debilitating illness that threatened his leg, prompting an outpouring of support from fans and organizations like the Abubakar Bukola Saraki Foundation. Despite efforts to save his leg, Mr. Ibu underwent a leg amputation in November 2023 due to severe health complications.

Tragically, Mr. Ibu passed away on March 2, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and joy. His impact on Nigerian cinema and entertainment is immeasurable, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of fans.
