Expect more power outages during peak hours – ECG warns

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has issued a warning regarding potential power outages during peak hours due to increased power consumption. In a social media post, ECG stated that 630 distribution transformers in various communities across its operational zones are currently operating above capacity.

This situation could lead to blown fuses and broken conductors, resulting in outages, particularly during the peak load time of 7pm to 11pm in the affected areas.

The company assured customers that transformer upgrading and new projects are underway to alleviate the strain on these transformers and ensure a more reliable power supply.

Customers in the affected communities were urged to report any localized outages or voltage fluctuations to the ECG Call Center or via their social media handles for prompt rectification.

ECG emphasized the importance of customer support and patience as they work to enhance Ghana’s power distribution system. Additionally, Samuel Dubik Mahama, the Managing Director of ECG, recently addressed the issue of frequent power disruptions (dumsor), attributing them to maintenance issues.

He explained that as the company operates machinery, malfunctions can occur unexpectedly, leading to the challenges faced by consumers.
