Two Ghanaian prison officers have been brought before the Accra Circuit Court on charges of conspiracy and aiding escape for their alleged involvement in the escape of a Chinese prisoner, Wang Xiao, from Nsawam Medium Prison.
Joseph Oteng and Sergeant Isaac Boateng Bonsu are accused of assisting Wang Xiao in his escape from custody. Initially, the officers claimed that Xiao was abducted by individuals driving a Toyota Vitz after a hospital visit.
However, CCTV footage from a nearby hotel contradicts their story. The footage captures the accused officers escorting Xiao to the hotel to meet his purported wife in a room. It shows them removing Xiao’s handcuffs and escorting him to the hotel reception.
At the reception, Bonsu informed the staff that they were there to visit someone in one of the rooms. Subsequently, the officers allegedly allowed Xiao to meet his supposed wife, who offered them KFC rice and drinks in exchange for some private time with her husband.
