The National Football League (NFL) has taken an interesting step by shooting a commercial at Accra’s popular Makola Market ahead of Super Bowl LVIII.
The 15-second teaser of the commercial, aired during the AFC championship game, features NFL stars such as Saquon Barkley, Justin Jefferson, and Cameron Jordan.
In the commercial, these players showcase their skills and even engage in the Azonto dance, set against the backdrop of the bustling Makola Market.
Titled “Born to Play,” the campaign underscores the NFL’s commitment to developing local talents globally and creating pathways to the league.
This move aligns with the NFL’s growing presence in Ghana, where initiatives are underway to introduce American football into schools. Cleveland Browns’ Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, hailing from Ghana, already represents the country in the NFL.
Ghana’s Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif has expressed plans to introduce American football in schools, aiming to tap into the interest generated by partnerships with the NFL. This initiative follows a visit by an NFL contingent to Ghana, where they organized events to introduce the sport to the local community.
Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s office is actively supporting this endeavor, signaling a promising future for American football in Ghanaian schools.
