A couple has been apprehended by the Police at the Bridgehead in Onitsha, Anambra state, for trafficking a one-month-old baby from Lagos.
The arrest was made following a call from a concerned passenger who noticed suspicious behavior during their journey. The suspects confessed to purchasing the child from the mother in Ajah, Lagos, for a sum of N30,000.
The police have handed over the suspects to the National Agency for Prohibition in Trafficking of Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and prosecution.
The infant has been placed under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs by the state government. The interception took place when the luxury bus transporting the couple and the baby was identified and stopped by the police at Bridgehead in Onitsha.
